Approximately 90,000 ships per annum sail in and out through the port mouth of Elsinore Port. The Port Office, with its view over the whole port, must be notified of each entry and exit. In practice, the job is shared between 5 port officers who divide the hours of the day between them in 12-hour watches. The Port Office steers the ships safely in and out of the port and keeps ferries informed of the movements of other vessels in the fairway. The Port has a total of 10 staff: the Port Master, deputy Port Master, five officers, one administrator and two maintenance depot staff who deal with day-to-day operations. |
